Year 2

Year 2 Staff

Miss Bramley – Class Teacher

I’m Miss Bramley and I teach Year 2 at St John’s. I am also Science co-ordinator, so it is my job to ensure children achieve in this subject across school. Science is so important because it affects every part of our lives, sometimes without us even realising it.

When I am not teaching, I am at the gym, cycling or spending time with friends and family.

Mrs Laverick – HLTA

Hi, my name is Mrs. Laverick and I am employed as Higher-Level Teaching Assistant.  I have worked at St. John’s for nearly 10 years. I currently work in Year 2 supporting the class teacher and taking small intervention groups.  I enjoy PE and EngIish.  I also run a Key Skills group on a morning, this involves the children doing exercises to promote better fine and gross motor skills.

I am married with two grown up children.  I also enjoy going for long walks, going shopping and keeping fit.

Mrs Clark – HLTA & SEND Support

Hi! My name is Mrs Clark and I am SENDCO Assistant at St. John’s where I have been working for thirty years. My job is so rewarding, it is a pleasure to work with such wonderful children and their families. During my time I have worked closely with the Head Teacher and SENDCO as part of the Safeguarding Team to ensure the welfare of all children, providing social and pastoral support to both children and their families. Primarily my role is to identify, assess and support pupils with a range of SEN needs and currently I work in Year 2. I also assess children who have particular Speech, Language and Communication needs in school to ensure they receive direct support.  Working in partnership with relevant professionals and outside agencies is paramount to support the children.

Back at home I am married with three children aged 21, 14 and 11. I enjoy walking my dog Layla, going on bike rides with my family and visiting a lovely beach. Watching my son play football and my daughter dance also brings me a great deal of joy and happiness.

Miss Clarey – Class Teacher (currently on Maternity Leave)

Hi! My name is Miss Clarey and I teach Year 2 at St. John’s. I began teaching at St. John’s six years ago and have loved every minute of it! I love every aspect of my job and I find teaching incredibly fun and rewarding. In school I am also subject coordinator for Art and Design Technology. I love this role as I personally love teaching Art. Art and D.T. are subjects where children are able to express their imagination, feelings and interests all while having fun and getting very messy!

When I am not in school I love taking my dog Bertie out for lovely long walks and spending quality time with my family and friends.

Year 2 Important Information

We hope to find you well after what has been uncertain and strange times. We also hope that your child has settled back into school life and has settled into Year 2 after a very long time off! Here is some useful information you will need to know for your child in Year 2 this year:

Homework
Monday – Children are given a new spelling list every Monday to practice at home ready for their test on a Friday.

Reading
Please can we ask for children to bring their reading packet to school on a Friday only ready for ‘packet swap day’. Children will be sent a reading book home every Friday. At school we will listen to your child read. However, please could you listen to your child read at home at least three times per week.
In school children take part in phonics lessons two times a day. In the second half of Autumn term your child will be sitting a compulsory phonics screening check.
We follow the scheme ‘Phonics Bug’. As part of this scheme children can also gain access to ‘active learn’. On ‘active learn’ children can read their reading books and play a range of phonic games all while winning gold coins. These gold coins then allow children to play games and collect stickers.

P.E. Lessons
Physical Education is a compulsory part of a school’s curriculum. This year in P.E. children will have the opportunity to practice multi skills such as throwing and catching. We will also take part in fitness, dance, gymnastics and tennis lessons (to name a few!). In Year 2 our P.E days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On these days please could we ask pupils to come to school dressed in their P.E. kits. Their P.E kits consist of:
Plain white t-shirt or polo shirt.
Black, grey or navy tracksuit bottoms.
Trainers or plimsolls.
Children can also wear their red school jumper of their white t-shirt.

Music Lessons
In Year 2, our children are extremely fortunate to have a specialist Music teacher teach them Music every week. Miss Casewell comes into school every Thursday afternoon to teach Year 2 music. Although it is only the beginning of the year our children have enjoyed every minute of their music lessons with Miss Casewell.

Additional Information
Miss Clarey is our class teacher in Year 2. Alongside Miss Clarey, Mrs Laverick and Mrs Clark are our amazing HLTA’s, who work full time with us in our classroom.
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you for your continued support.
