Year 3 Staff
Mrs Taylor – Class Teacher
Hi! My name is Mrs Taylor and I teach Year 3 at St. John’s. I began teaching at St. John’s eight years ago and have loved every minute of it! I love every aspect of my job and I find teaching incredibly fun and rewarding. In school I am also subject coordinator for Art and Design Technology. I love this role as I personally love teaching Art. Art and D.T. are subjects where children are able to express their imagination, feelings and interests all while having fun and getting very messy!
When I am not in school I love taking my dog Bertie out for lovely long walks and spending quality time with my family and friends.
Mrs Pearson – Class Teacher
Hello. My name is Mrs. Pearson and I’ve been a teacher at St John’s since 2005. I work in Year 3 on a Wednesday.
I have three children and enjoy spending time with them. I also love to bake and spend my days away from school in my kitchen!
Mrs Scott – HLTA
Hello my name is Mrs Scott and I’ve lived in Shildon all of my life and currently live in New Shildon with my husband and two daughters. I attended St. John’s Primary School as a child and both of my teenage daughters attended St John’s from Nursery right through to Year 6.
I have worked in childcare for over 20 years, first as a childminder, then in a private Nursery and for the last 11 years in St John’s Primary School. I am currently a HLTA in Year 3 but have worked in Nursery, Year 1, Year 4 and Year 5.
In my spare time I enjoy keeping fit, reading and socialising with friends.
Year 3 Important Information
Here is some important and useful information for our Year 3 children and parents.
Homework
Homework in Year 3 will be as follows:
Monday – Spellings to learn for Friday’s spelling test. It is really important to learn spelling and understand the rule each week.
Very shortly I will be sending home a list of websites that your child can access to enhance learning.
Due to the current situation we will not be sending homework books/ reading journals home. We do not expect spelling sheets to be returned to school.
PE
Physical Education is a compulsory part of the school curriculum, therefore all children need to have their PE kit in school. In Year 3, our PE days are Monday and Wednesday.
Children are encouraged to come into school dressed in their PE kit. At the moment, children’s PE kit consists of:
plain white t-shirt
black shorts or tracksuit bottoms
trainers or plimsolls.
Children can wear their red school jumpers over their white t-shirts.
Reading Books
We are encouraging children to become more independent readers. Children will be choosing their own books and reading during our daily in-class ‘Accelerated Reader’ sessions, they are able to bring these books home but must return them to school daily. Every child will be heard reading regularly in class in our Accelerated Reader sessions and Guided Reading Group sessions where adults regularly assess and monitor your child’s progress.
Attendance & Punctuality
At St. John’s Primary School, we are committed to providing pupils with the best educational opportunities available. To enable pupils to benefit from these opportunities it is essential that parents ensure their regular attendance.
The impact on children’s education through poor attendance, resulting in lost learning, is huge! Our children have already had their education disrupted due to the pandemic and every minute in school counts! To prevent anyone falling behind with their learning, we need to continue to work together to make sure that your child is in school and on time every day. We encourage all of our children to be at school for 8.40am for a prompt start to the day.
