Year 3 Staff
Miss Clarey – Class Teacher
Hi! My name is Miss Clarey and I teach Year 3 at St. John’s. I began teaching at St. John’s seven years ago and have loved every minute of it! I love every aspect of my job and I find teaching incredibly fun and rewarding. In school I am also subject coordinator for Art and Design Technology. I love this role as I personally love teaching Art. Art and D.T. are subjects where children are able to express their imagination, feelings and interests all while having fun and getting very messy!
When I am not in school I love taking my dog Bertie out for lovely long walks and spending quality time with my family and friends.
Mrs Pearson – Class Teacher
Hello. My name is Mrs. Pearson and I’ve been a teacher at St John’s since 2005. I work in Year 3 on Monday-Wednesday, teaching SPaG, PSHE and RSE, French, Computing, Handwriting and Maths.
I have three children and enjoy spending time with them. I also love to bake and spend my days away from school in my kitchen!
Mrs Rose – School Support Assistant
My name is Mrs Rose and I work in Year 3. I’ve worked at St John’s for a long time – 24 years! I am always there to give extra help and support both within class and in small group interventions. My specialist area is Speech, language and phonics. I also really love English and History.
At home I have a lovely little dog called Darcey and we enjoy long walks together.
Mrs Eltringham – HLTA

I have 4 grown up children, Jack, Lewis, Grace and Georgia. I have a lovely dog called Luna and a very lazy cat called Alfie.
I have a massive love of all animals and at home I love going for long walks with my dog and occasionally other people’s dogs too.

Year 3 Important Information
Hello and welcome to Year 3. First of all I want to say thank you for getting your children back into school and adhering to all of the new changes. I hope that your child has settled well.
Here is some important and useful information for our Year 3 children and parents.
Homework in Year 3 will be as follows:
Monday – Spellings to learn for Friday’s spelling test. It is really important to learn spelling and understand the rule each week.
Very shortly I will be sending home a list of websites that your child can access to enhance learning.
Due to the current situation we will not be sending homework books/ reading journals home. We do not expect spelling sheets to be returned to school.
Physical Education is a compulsory part of the school curriculum, therefore all children need to have their PE kit in school. In Year 3, our PE days are Monday and Tuesday.
Children are encouraged to come into school dressed in their PE kit. At the moment, children’s PE kit consists of:
plain white t-shirt
black shorts or tracksuit bottoms
trainers or plimsolls.
Children can wear their red school jumpers over their white t-shirts.
Under normal circumstances, our Year 3 children have the opportunity to learn to swim at Woodhouse Close Leisure Centre in Bishop Auckland. Of course, at the moment we are not able to go for weekly swimming lessons. As soon as it is considered safe, we will let you know before we begin our swimming sessions again.
Some children in Year 3 will not be receiving a regular weekly reading book. We are encouraging children to become more independent readers. Children will be choosing their own books and reading during our daily in-class ‘Accelerated Reader’ sessions. Every child will be heard reading regularly in class in our Accelerated Reader sessions and Guided Reading Group sessions where adults regularly assess and monitor your child’s progress.
Mrs Barker is our class teacher, Mrs Pearson, Mrs Rose and Mrs Eltringham also work in Year 3 on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Rose works in Year 3 on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Finally, if you have any questions or need any further information about anything to do with school, please ask!
As always, thank you for your continued support.
Mrs Barker, Mrs Pearson, Mrs Rose and Mrs Eltringham
